Elizabeth Ayers

Chiffon and Lace wedding Dress

A feminine chiffon and lace wedding dress, made to measure by Elizabeth Ayers with her original flair, design and craftsmanship.

The soft crepe and chiffon skirt creates a beautiful elegant line that is light and easy to wear. This romantic dress has the added detail of delicate lace godets in the back of the skirt creating detail and fullness bespoke to this bride’s desires. As the skirt and lace is so light weight the train can be easily tied up after the ceremony for ease of movement for the bride.

The exquisitely beautiful and delicate beaded lace is covering the bodice. The scalloped edging creates a pretty edge to the sheer cap sleeves.

The whole dress is finished off with an antique-style beaded belt on a gross grain ribbon, all made bespoke by Elizabeth in her dressmaking studio.

1950s Silk Wedding Dress

Vintage inspired tea-length 1950s silk wedding dress. Made from silk duchess satin with a broach embellishment to add detail and vintage elegance.

The pure, simple beauty of this dress glowed with the quality of the silk duchess satin. The cut of the dress with the pleats and drapes flaunted the beauty of the fabric at its best.

As with all tea length gowns, the length is crucial to the individual. It is very important that the proportions of the dress are accurate and perfectly coutured for the height and body size of the particular bride. It must also finish at the most flattering part of the brides legs to compliment their unique figure. This may be at the ankles, calves or just below the knees. With Elizabeth’s expert guidance the bride is advised on the perfect length for her own body.

This bride in particular wanted to ensure she had plenty of movement so that she could dance the jive during the wedding reception, which meant finding a length that was both flattering and allowed enough movement and freedom for her to dance the night away!

The bodice has draped pleats wrapped over the bust into a wide pleated belt area, which is trimmed with a beaded broach drawing the eye and creating a flattering focal point on this 1950s silk wedding dress.

The skirt has plenty of fullness, with pleats falling from the waist enhanced with nets underneath creating the required silhouette. Down the back, the dress is fastened and trimmed with covered buttons to match the dress and Swarovski Crystal buttons evenly interspersed. The fitted sleeve has turned-back cuffs with Swarovski crystal buttons.

A beautiful 1950s silk wedding dress that filled the brief of the bride and ensured the quality of the silk duchess satin was shining through all day long.

Strapless wedding dress

This very versatile strapless wedding dress was made for a bride who wanted to have the dress adaptable for different times of the day during her wedding.

The full dress was a sculptured opulent strapless wedding dress with a big ‘wow’ factor for her entrance.

The dress was made out of 100% silk zibeline with pearl beaded lace.

The 3 pieces consisted of a strapless fitted dress with a straight skirt, which kicked out in a small flare at the bottom. The bodice had lace detail from under the bust dropping down to the hips and finished with a belt at the waist, giving a ‘nipped in’ waist.

The strapless wedding dress has a corset laced back inside as the bride wanted the feeling achieved when corseted in but without the lace detail showing. The dress was fastened over with covered buttons and loops.

The second piece was a sleeveless lace, which fastens at the back using the buttons on the dress to fix it in place. This enabled a more modest neckline for the traditional service.

The third part is a cathedral train made in the zibeline, which is pleated into the waistband. This waistband is worn over the satin ribbon of the strapless wedding dress and represents a belt with a flower at one side.

The skirt is wrapped around the body leaving the centre panel of the straight strapless wedding dress visible. The top of the skirt has lace that follows the same line as the lace over the bottom of the bodice.

A strapless wedding dress with both visual impact and versatility. Particularly suitable for a wedding with different aspects or worn over two days if the service and reception are on different days.

Lace Wedding Dress

White satin and silk organza and lace wedding dress.

This bride came to Elizabeth looking for an elegant, classic lace wedding dress, with the modesty appropriate for her Christian wedding.

The leavers lace was attached all over the bodice to add beautiful subtle texture and detail. The appliquéd lace round the neckline creates a delicate, soft edging and the lace sleeves provide a modest look. The skirt is a full circle with no train and the deep lace border has been cut and appliquéd to go round the hem of the organza skirt.

Then motifs from the same lace have been meticulously and evenly dispersed across the rest of the skirt to add gentle interest and detailing. The bodice is heavily structured and fastened with covered button and loops at the back. Elizabeth trimmed the white veil with lace from the dress to match, creating a full and beautiful lace wedding dress outfit.

This lace wedding dress is a classic shape, which will always look great when looking back at photos in years to come. And most importantly of all, the bride-to-be was absolutely thrilled with the result.

Elizabeth Ayers can create you something truly unique for your wedding day. We believe that a wedding dress should reflect the bride’s personality and be an expression of her personal style, as well as being as flattering and well-fitted as possible. Wedding Outfit

This made-to-measure wedding outfit was created from lace and chiffon and was the perfect choice for this mature bride. The outfit comprised a strapless dress made from a gorgeous silver crepe satin, which fitted and flared from the knees allowing easy movement.

For the wedding ceremony the bride wore a silk blouse over the strapless dress, made from a pale silver chiffon. This over-layer was decorated with a heavily embellished beaded neckline and hem; no jewellery is required when the detail is this stunning! The bride felt more comfortable wearing the blouse over the dress for the ceremony as it creates a softer more modest look. The beaded band at the hem of the bodice sits just on top of the hops, creating a romantic blouson look.

The bride removed the chiffon top for the evening reception, and we created an embellished beaded belt she could add to the dress for a totally different, glamourous look. She told us after the wedding that she even wore the outfit again the next day as she loved wearing it so much! This wedding outfit could easily be work again, either as two separate pieces or together, for another special occasion.

“Elizabeth created my stunning bespoke wedding dress. Her skill and ability to interpret my ideas and her patience to make sure it was right was amazing. I’ve had so many comments about my dress, both on the day and since when people have seen photos. It was beautiful and I felt fabulous! So fabulous that I wore it to dinner the following evening! Elizabeth is incredibly talented and I couldn’t have wished for more.”

If you have an idea for the dress of your dreams, make an appointment with us today and we can create it together.

Petite Wedding Dress

This show-stopping petite wedding dress was made to measure for a bride who found that off the shelf dresses didn’t flatter her shape. She had a one-to-one consultation with Elizabeth to discuss the different options and the styles that she liked. They decided on a romantic, dramatic dress covered with individual hand-made flowers and accented with crystals.

The gorgeous silhouette of the dress is created by a heavily boned bodice with a very fitted structure to create the shape required. Silk taffeta was rouched all over the bodice and down below the hips, and gathered in a flattering diagonal pattern around the body.

The unique floral collar and skirt of the dress is made up of 120 hand-made silk taffeta and silk tulle flowers, the centres of which are highlighted with crystal stamens. The dress is fastened down the back with a zip covered with Swarovski crystal buttons.

Overall this petite wedding dress is a real show-stopper, and the craftsmanship, attention to detail and long work hours that have gone into it have all been worth it!

A lot of petite brides struggle to find ‘ready made’ wedding dresses that fit them well, and often the best option is a dress that has been especially designed for them and created from scratch.  If you’re a petite or tall bride and you would like a couture wedding dress tailored just for you, get in touch (include link to contact us page) with Elizabeth Ayers today to book a one-to-one consultation.

Heart Back Wedding Dress

This stunning heart back wedding dress was made to measure by Elizabeth Ayers from an idea the bride came up with and they developed together. The bride had seen lots of wedding dresses but nothing was quite right, so she picked her favourite elements from each dress to create something truly unique.

The skirt of the dress is created with several layers of white tulle, which is short at the front with a small train at the back. This makes an interesting juxtaposition where the front gives the feeling of a fun 1950s style skirt, with the long back creating a more traditional wedding dress shape.

The strapless bodice is tailored from white satin, which is cut very low at the back and heavily boned. This is overlaid with lace, beautifully embellished with white beads and sequins. The beading is subtle and really compliments the pattern of the lace. The attention to detail extends to the covered buttons that fasten the dress. The lace bodice features long sleeves and the neck edge is finished off with the lace scalloped edging.

A unique heart shaped feature on the back of the dress is the pièce de résistance, again highlighted with delicate lace scalloping.

“Yesterday I brought home my one of a kind wedding dress, and I have Elizabeth to thank for an amazing job! She made the picture in my head into a reality and I can’t wait to wear it! Can’t recommend her enough!”

Mother of the Bride Outfit

This beautiful bespoke mother of the bride outfit has been created by Elizabeth Ayers from specially selected silk dupion in a flattering silvery-blue colour. The knee-length dress has a lace overlay and a matching silk bolero jacket, which covers the upper arms but falls at the elbow.

The mother of the bride had previously looked at department stores to try and find an ‘off the shelf’ option but she couldn’t find one that fitted her well. She didn’t feel at ease wearing the traditional mother of the bride dresses so that’s why she came to Elizabeth Ayers, to have something made that would be tailored to her exact requirements.

The brief for Elizabeth was to create an outfit that made her feel special but that was also simple, elegant and comfortable. Although the outfit was made especially for the wedding, the mother of the bride wanted to be able to wear it again for other special occasions.

Working closely with her client, Elizabeth has created a bespoke mother of the bride outfit that fulfils the requirements and flatters the figure beautifully.

Elizabeth Ayers can create completely individual, bespoke or alternatively styled mother of the bride outfits that you won’t find on the high street. We believe that an outfit for a special occasion should reflect the wearer’s personality and be an expression of her personal style, as well as being as flattering and well-fitted to her figure as possible.

Elizabeth has helped many mothers of the bride create the perfect dress or outfit for their daughter’s special day. Take a look at the other couture wedding dresses she has created.

Classic Wedding Dress

This classic wedding dress has an unusual story. Elizabeth Ayers created the dress as part of a collection she produced over twenty years ago. It was for a couture collection but had never been worn, and somehow ended up in a local bridal charity shop in Pembrokeshire, where it was found by the bride-to-be.

She loved the dress and wanted to find out who had originally created it, then saw Elizabeth’s name on the label. After a bit of searching online, she found the Elizabeth Ayers website and made an appointment with us to have it altered to fit her better. We realised that it would need new bodice panels fitted, but by a stroke of pure luck we still had the gold lace in stock from the original dress. We were able to make the necessary alternations and the bride-to-be was delighted with the result. Not only did she find her dream dress in an unusual place, but she was able to give a new lease of life to a dress that had never been worn.

It goes to show that fashion really does go around in circles! While some styles may look dated in a few years, a simple, classic dress will always look fabulous. If you’re on a budget for your wedding it’s always worth looking into second-hand options, and there are many stores that specialise in pre-owned dresses, or in this case, ones that haven’t actually been worn. A professional like Elizabeth Ayers can then alter the dress to fit you, and you will end up with an amazing, tailored dress that looks like it was made for you.

If you have a vintage or second-hand dress that requires alteration, you can book a one-to-one consultation with us here.

White wedding dress with sleeves

This white wedding dress with sleeves is influenced by 1940’s vintage style and features beautiful button detailing on the back and on the long sleeves. The dress has a white satin bodice, and the fabric has been cleverly draped and cut to create a rose at the neckline. The gorgeous long georgette sleeves have deep satin cuffs fastened with pearl buttons. The skirt is created from three layers of white tulle which has been caught up at the hemline in a deliberately random fashion to give an interesting shape.

This white wedding dress with sleeves was a challenging brief for Elizabeth as it was made within a very tight deadline. The bride originally had chosen another dress well ahead of time, but unfortunately it had become discoloured during storage, leaving her with no dress a month before her wedding. Luckily it was January, (traditionally a quiet time in the wedding industry calendar) and Elizabeth was able to work on the dress continuously for three weeks.

The bride wanted a modest, white wedding dress with a nod to vintage detailing, and we were happy to help her out in her time of need as it would have been almost impossible to find such a specific style of dress elsewhere.

Elizabeth Ayers can create completely individual, bespoke or alternatively styled and coloured bridal gowns that you won’t find ‘off the shelf’. We believe that a wedding dress should reflect the bride’s personality and be an expression of her personal style, as well as being as flattering and well-fitted as possible.

Chiffon Prom Dress

This beautifully delicate chiffon prom dress has been made to measure for a client who had a particular look in mind. They met with Elizabeth Ayers and after a consultation decided on a floor length dress, made from gorgeous pale blue silk chiffon, with an embroidery tulle bodice. The dress has intricate beaded detailing on the waist and a dainty low back.

The chiffon prom dress has the perfect level of modesty for a young girl, with its delicate capped sleeves over the bodice and longline skirt. The dress fits perfectly around the bust and waist as it has been made to measure, as the client would have had several fittings with Elizabeth Ayers to ensure that their ideal dress has been realised. Elizabeth takes great care not to rush ahead too much at each stage so that alterations can be made as she goes. The finished dress is a genuine one-off, and the joint creative process by Elizabeth and her client results in something truly original.

Proms were primarily an American high school tradition, but now many schools and colleges in the UK have followed suit. They are often the first chance these young adults have to properly dress up in their best suits and dresses. What a perfect opportunity to have a bespoke couture dress made with your exact specifications in mind, a dress that could be worn again for other formal occasions and celebrations.

Elizabeth Ayers also offers a range of fantastically stylish and flattering couture special occasion dresses, from prom dresses to bespoke wedding dresses and mother of the bride outfits.

Short Wedding Dress

This short wedding dress has been made to measure by Elizabeth Ayers for a bride who wanted to recreate a 1950’s look. The couture dress has been created from silk doupion, and features embroidered tulle and lace. Elizabeth Ayers also designed and made a matching bolero jacket, which perfectly complements the strapless dress and gives that fantastic retro silhouette.

Short wedding dresses are very fashionable at the moment, and brides love them for the ease of movement, alternative style and the fact that you can show off a great pair of shoes! Short wedding dresses work well for informal weddings, mature brides and second marriages. Or for anyone that doesn’t want the hassle of a full train and wants to have a good dance during the reception.  This dress would also work very well for a young bride who really wanted to recreate a retro 1950s style, perhaps in ivory.

This dress has been created in gold doupion and ivory lace skirt and bodice, with rouched silk detail on the bodice front and back. The design would also suit other colours, such as all-over ivory with ivory lace. If you like the short wedding dress style, you can have your own design made, starting with a consultation with Elizabeth Ayers.

Elizabeth Ayers can create completely individual, bespoke or alternatively styled and coloured bridal gowns that you won’t find ‘off the shelf’. Our approach is that a wedding dress should show the bride’s personality and be a unique expression of her style, as well as flattering her figure in the best possible way.

Wedding Trouser Suits

Wedding trouser suits are a popular choice for mature brides or for second weddings. They are also a stylish alternative for those that would not feel comfortable in a traditional wedding dress, or for winter weddings when cold weather is an issue. Wedding trouser suits are extremely flattering for all body types, as there is a style to suit everyone.

This bespoke three-piece wedding trouser suit features tailor-made trousers, a bodice and a Chantilly lace jacket. It was created in silk satin chiffon, overlaid over silk crepe. The outfit was specially designed and made for a mature bride who wanted to wear trousers, with the main requirements being that they were soft, comfortable and easy to wear. However, we think you’ll agree that wedding trouser suits are every bit as feminine and romantic as a more conventional wedding dress!

Elizabeth Ayers can tailor-make a wedding trouser suit to your exact specifications.  And as it’s just as important for a trouser suit to fit perfectly as it is for a dress, careful measurements are taken to ensure that the finished outfit will flatter the figure and be comfortable. It all starts with a one to one consultation, then via a process of several fittings your dream wedding outfit will start to take shape.

Wedding outfits can consist of trousers with a top and jacket, or trousers with a sleeveless bodice, depending on the time of the year and how modest the bride wishes to be. Trouser suits tend to suit ivory or gold tones rather than white, and work particularly well with detailing such as beading or lace.

You can see other examples of Elizabeth Ayer’s bespoke wedding dresses and special occasion dresses here.

Winter wedding dress

A winter wedding dress must be practical as well as beautiful, which is why it’s often a good idea to have some kind of sleeves and a skirt made of warmer material, usually achieved by the addition of layers.

This beautiful winter wedding dress has five layers of white tulle and beaded lace, with a beaded lace overlay on to white Chantilly Lace on the bodice and skirt panel. The dress has Chantilly Lace sleeves with cuffs, with scrunchies of white tulle used round the neckline and down the skirt panel with beaded lace centres. It features a heavily beaded silver and white waistband, with scrunchies of tulle and lace flowers used to trim the bottom of the veil to bring the whole look together.

This dress was designed to be modest and in white as the bride specifically requested it. The winter wedding dress was created with the initial concept from the bride and developed with Elizabeth’s flair, design and skilled workmanship. The end result is a modest and beautiful dress, just as the bride envisioned, and she was delighted that her dress was so personal and unique.

Elizabeth Ayers can design and create a couture winter wedding dress to your exact specifications. Vintage wedding dress

A Couture restyle of vintage wedding dress

Elizabeth Ayers restyled this 1980’s allover tiered lace vintage wedding dress. This bride came to try on Rembo dresses. However when she came and realised what Elizabeth Ayers could do she decided to have her mothers wedding dress restyled. Her mother had sadly passed away a few years earlier and the bride was thrilled that she could have the her wedding dress altered to a more up to date yet vintage style. There was a considerable amount of work to be done to the wedding dress, but it fitted her perfectly.

The lining needed replacing, the zip had gone rusty, there was a large frill round the neck and it was dirty.

Having replaced the lining, added buttons in place of the zip, removed the frill round the neck and had the whole dress dry cleaned, the dress was perfect. The bride was so happy that she was able to use her mothers dress and Elizabeth Ayers was happy to have made this wedding dress so special for her.

Restyling wedding dresses is the kind of creative project that suits Elizabeth Ayers’ couture skills at which she excels. She can restyle many wedding dresses to suit her customers individual style.

1930’s inspired wedding dress

1930’s inspired wedding dress. The bride had seen a Schiaparelli 1930’s design in a fashion museum in New York. As a designer herself (not fashion) she decided that was what she wanted to base her wedding dress on. She came to me with the ideas and I drew up the designs she had in mind. We had to work very closely together with this. There were a few areas of the design that needed to be overcome. Like how do you get a pattern through the middle of a piece of fabric, the proportion of the seams and how to get into it. The original Schiaparelli fabric was printed with design down the length of the fabric. I needed to create the pattern by appliquéing lace down the length of the fabric. This gave the dress a feeling of material being wrapped around her body. However she didn’t want the dress to look like a sari so it had to be stitched to a fitted base dress underneath. In order to get the proportions correct we had several fitting with a mock up piece of fabric.

The dress was made in 100% silk heavy satin crepe de chine and was lined with a bright scarlet lining which was echoed with some beads to match in the lace.

The final result though not your standard wedding dress suited Becci and was just what she was looking for.

“Liz has been amazing in transforming the initial idea into such a beautiful dress. She has a huge amount of experience which made me feel very confident in her approach and created a stunning dress that has been challenging to do but resolved so well. She can clearly put her hand to any kind of style, suggesting ideas to create different effects and using a wide range of techniques. Very skilled and professional.”

Riding habit wedding outfit

Riding habit wedding outfit designed and made by Elizabeth Ayers for the wedding theme based on black and white. Being an equestrian dressage rider and enjoying wearing the full riding habit costume she wanted to incorporate the look into her wedding outfit. As Elizabeth had trained in Theatre costume this was just up her street. The dress was inspired by the riding habits that she wore and was accessorised with the full Edwardian style riding hat.

This riding habit wedding outfit, comprised of dress and jacket, was worn over a traditional boned Edwardian style corset which gave the dress an excellent base on which to be worn.

With the experience in theatre and costume it was the natural decision to have her dress made.

The dress and jacket was made in smooth dupion silk which gave body and shape. The bodice of the dress was made with black all over lace and a matching deep edged lace was used to trim the jacket.

Elizabeth did a fantastic job designing and making my dream wedding dress. I had the image in my head of what I wanted and she designed and produced it to the finest detail within my budget too! I can highly recommend Elizabeth Ayers bridal wear for bespoke wedding dresses.
